AS/EN/JISQ 9100 Aerospace Standards for Quality Management
Continuous Improvement (CI) strategies refer to the initiatives taken by each individual company in order to improve further products considering already produced ones. The former idea wraps the company around a perpetual will to improve.
Different approaches are taken by current companies aiming to improve in a continuous manner. Trying to answer the question of “can we be, as an organization, a top ten in our sector?”, companies have developed different strategies concerning the aforementioned purpose, such as: Maturity Models, Management Models, and Models and Standards for Improvement.
The AS/EN/JISQ 9100 conforms a widely adopted and standardized quality management systems family for the aerospace industry released in 1999 by the Society of Automotive Engineers which has gone through multiple revisions and updates (last in 2016: 9100 Revision D). The former arises from the ISO 9001 Quality Management System aiming to adapt to a changing world, enhance an organization’s ability to satisfy its customers, provide a consistent foundation for the future, reflect the increasingly complex environments in which organizations operate, ensure the new standard reflects the needs of all interested parties and integrate with other management systems.
The following model presents the steps conforming the concerned quality management system:
As it has been stated at the beginning of the ongoing document, the AS/EN/JISQ 9100 family aims to increase the quality of the set of processes carried by the corresponding company. However, the benefits of the aforementioned could be extended. Within the whole bunch, the following could be highlighted:
- Produce and continually improve safe and reliable products.
- Meet or exceed customer and regulatory requirements to ensure satisfaction.
- Improved integration with business operations and strategy.
- Focus on the complete supply chain and stakeholders.
- Documentation accurately reflects the work to be performed and actions to be taken.
- Processes necessary to conduct day-to-day business are defined where necessary and managed.
- Recognized by Regulatory Authorities. Fewer customer unique documents.
